Blinded By Violence

This is a piece I created for one of my courses that was featured in the 2019 AU Design Show.

For this project, I was given a prompt where I had to create an illustration poster surrounding a political topic of my choice, accompanied by an essay with additional research on the subject. I chose to cover the issue of gun violence in the U.S. After conducting research on the topic, I began brainstorming visual imagery and sketching various ideas.

I’m very inspired by minimalist illustrations, particularly ones that play with negative space, so I decided to explore that visual concept more in my sketches. I remembered reading somewhere that psychologically, seeing eyes evokes empathy and response in others, so I incorporated an eye in my design for greater emotional effect.
